A scan is often the beginning of a larger workflow. If clean manufacturing CAD is required, the scan can be combined with 3D modeling or reverse engineering rather than being treated as the final result by itself.

01Is a 3D scan the same as an editable CAD model?

No. A scan captures the physical geometry, while a clean editable CAD model usually requires additional modeling or reverse-engineering work. The required output should be agreed based on how you plan to use it.

02Can scanning be used to reproduce an existing part?

It can provide the geometric reference. If the goal is a manufacturable replacement or modified component, the scan can then be combined with reverse engineering and, where appropriate, production.
